Personally, it doesnt matter too much to me that we don't get to transfer our characters to GW2. I just hope that I'm able to recreate some of my favourite characters though. I hope they'll still have Rangers, Paragons, Monks, etc etc and that they still play in a similar way (i.e. Paragon shouts, Assassin Critical Hits) I hope but doubt that they'll include skills from the old GW.

If there were some sort of familiarity, I think it would soften the blow of not being able to transfer our old characters. At least that's how I view it.

By the end of the year they'll probaly put GW1 on one server, because more than half of the people will quit.
There no point in getting new items and titles, just beat GW:EN and uninstall. Been fun.................

I suspect we won't be able to bring over our GW1 characters because Anet's going to redo the core professions.

The sad thing is, many have already made up their mind about the upcoming releases without reading the actual article or seeing any a-net press on the matters at hand. It's great to have the summary of what is coming up (IMHO it sounds exciting and can't wait to get my hands on it). Yet, before throwing a parade or jumping off a bridge; I'd like to actually see the magazine or read about it on a-nets site first. It would have been nice for the whole community to have access to the all the news upfront, but since we have plenty of time between now and then... let's take a collective breathe and see what develops.

Everything about Eyes of the North sounds stu-****ing-pendous. Can't wait. Everything about GW2 sounds even better, with only two minor concerns:

Higher Level Cap - If this can be done right, and there isn't too much of a benefit for grinding that high, it could be a good way to extend interest in the end-game. If it's done just like every other game out there, I will hate it. I'm a casual player who loves to try out all the classes and various play-styles, I don't even have the time to do that in GW as it is now.

Non-Instanced Zones - I have advocated this kinda thing in the past, but only if it is non-necessary explorable areas. In other words, an area just for fun. It's sounding like they are planning to have areas like this be most of the game, with only a handful of instanced "dungeons". That could be bad unless they have some ingenious ways to stop ganking/kill-stealing/etc. Limited amount of griefing FTW.

Otherwise, I welcome a new game. I could'nt care less if my characters are carried over, achievements or not, since I will probably play original GW from time-to-time, anyway. After all, I still played Diablo even after D2 was out, I'm sure this will be similar.

Also, please stop "speaking for everyone" when describing your personal dislike for this info. I can speak for myself quite efficiently, thank you.

I am an "old" gamer who play PC game since the Ultima series and I've seen a lot of fantasy game. What I like about the Guildwars is the fact that this game is a thinking game, research game, trial and error game, and not just the grinding fest that plague a lot of game. And when you finally finished your quest, you still can do a lot with your character. If you like to grind, then get FOW and title is for you. If you like competition, go to PvP. If you like the toon, farm that uber unique sword.

I like the idea of going fresh with GW2. I just worried that Anet will abandon their genius innovation in GW1 (great skills...o yeah I always look forward for the balance) and become main stream MMORPG which WoW is the king right now.

BTW, when will GW1 cease to exist? It may well happen that if still around, GW1 will still out perform GW2.

Peace.

I applaud ArenaNet for having the guts to take the best of their new ideas and forge them together into a new game altogether instead of trying to shoehorn into an aging concept. The Devs are to be commended for listening to the players.

I'm not sure why so many people are crying about "WoW" when the beta hasn't even been released yet. There is no harm or shame in playing a game that allows more than 8 people in a place that's not town. (Nearly every other MMO on the planet, in case you were wondering).

This will be Guild Wars' opportunity to reach out to the people who complain that Guild Wars is just Diablo with prettier graphics. (But what was ever wrong with Diablo anyway?!)

WoW is a hit, and it's a hit for a reason. I personally don't believe ANet is trying to copy Blizzard. On the contrary, it seems like they had a bunch of ideas that they simply needed a new game to implement. And a new game we're getting. They're going to try to give us the best of everything, as they always do. I have faith in ArenaNet.

So, in short, don't knock it before you try it. I await GW2 with anticipation and excitement.

Also: I have put in over 2,000 hours into Guild Wars. Most games give me a maximum of 80 hours of entertainment. I don't complain when they're over and say that all that time was for nothing, just because a good game ended - what a silly concept. The fact that GW was able to deliver so much enjoyment is a testament to ArenaNet's ability to create greatness, and GW2 will be awesome. The old servers will always be around; the new game will even benefit from GW1 accomplishments... so everything one does will still matter.

Gotta graduate high school sometime, guys. Or college. You get the idea.

Another few points that have really been bugging me....

I bought this game with the concept of a new campaign coming out every 6 months...well that hasn't happened and won't now.

ANet keeps saying this or that is going to happen and then it doesn't. Or it takes months and months longer than promised.

Why are they even telling us about this a year before Beta even begins?

I really would like to continue with GWs, but I just don't know now. Seems like as more and more time goes by the less faith and trust I have in the game.

is this true, our armor and weps will be transferable so i can basically redesign my char and just put on the same stuff my char from gw1 had and essentially make a very similar char?

It's not something I want to do; on the contrary I would love to be able to continue my team, and sometimes avoid buying new versions of the game just so that I don't have to start over. People who play any genre of game care about starting over, but it's just how most video games are.
Okay, gotcha.

For the record, I agree. I don't really expect characters to carry over from one game to another.

BUT! (You knew I was going to say that. ^_^)

To continue your sports game analogy, what would happen if you were in the middle of playing your great new game, your team was just getting to be the way you wanted it, and they announced that THIS year, the new version would come out in a month, instead of in another year?

Now what if it was possible that when the new game was released, the Game Police(tm) would come to your house and take away your old copy, even if you were still having a blast with your team and didn't want to move on, yet?

What if it were simply that none of your friends would continue playing the old game, and so it was pointless to continue?

See why some people are a bit upset?

I don't mind the lack of carry-over. It's just, as I've said, WAY TOO SOON to have to think about such things.

Ah ha! I have the 'partial' answer to this according to the article. Your titles/achievements will be transferable and "will go down in history via a monument in your honor." It will act as a family inheritance, a place where your GW1 titles and minipets (these were the examples) are displayed and and allow access to some GW2 benefits. Such as you can put your weapons in a display case and have your GW2 characters use them. You'll have to have the Eye of the North chapter in order to gain all this though.

GW:EN looks quite decent, it'll definitely give players something fresh to play around with while they wait for GW:2. (Really hoping for some creative guild halls, don't fail me now ANET )

While that is true, I am definitely not won over with the whole concept of GW:2. I find it very interesting that they are removing things that made GW:1 so unique.
I'm sad that they are taking focus off of instanced aread, but if they implement a mechanic such as simply combining the outposts to the outdoor areas, while keeping the missions instanced, that would be amazing.

I'm not won over by the whole new leveling idea, but it seems that ANET is getting it right, by taking all the things that are bad about it, and putting in a mechanic that overcomes those problems. Things such as the sidekick mode especially will allow you to play with your friends and progress through the game at the same time, at your own pace, without worry that your friend will out-level you and you won't be able to play together. Genius.

UAX for GvG. Awesome. It takes away 3/4 of the hassle of getting a GvG set up. Perhaps if they altered the mechanics for GvG, and made it feel like more of a siege rather than the standard PvP match...

World PvP. If this is implemented right, it would be spectacular. Hopefully they don't make the same mistake Blizzard made in WoW before Burning Crusade was released with their idea of world PvP. Not sure how it is now, but that mechanic was pretty bad. I really do hope that it is an organized form of play, in an instance preferrably.

Transferring characters. You can't do it and rightfully so. It is several hundred years into the future.
An interesting idea for this is having GW:1 characters be ancestors of the GW:2 characters. Say, once you reach level 20 in GW:2, you get to visit the tombstone of your own character (in an instance of course), and retrieve the armor that he/she had. For example, if your GW:1 Ranger had Druid Armor and a Stormbow, a ranger character in GW:2 would be able to get that after doing some quest at level 20. Now thats cool.

All in all, ANET seems to be giving the PvE'ers what they want, and the PvP'ers what they want, and still with no monthly fees. I think that ANET probably should have released more info concerning PvP in GW:2, but I guess that'll have to wait for a BETA test. =)

I have played GW for about 2 years now, and all I received was quality product after quality product. I am confident that even though all of this looks weird now, ANET definitely has in store a very pleasant surprise for all of us, one most likely more enjoyable than the experience offered to us that was the original Guild Wars.

Okay, no TECHNICALLY it didn't mention armor. But if it mentioned weapons I imagine armor just might be in this category. There is no confirmation on that though.

If it really is the case where weapons can be transferred via inheritance then that might mean that some if not all the professions and their attribute lines remain in GW2. I dont really care about items, I just want the professions and their basic mechanics intact.
